Rep. Andersson Named to Small Business and Judiciary Committees

A small business owner for 24 years before being elected to the Illinois General Assembly, State Representative Steve Andersson (R-Geneva) will bring that expertise and perspective to the House Small Business Empowerment & Workforce Development Committee during the 99th General Assembly.

For the next two years, Andersson will join five Republican colleagues and seven Democrat lawmakers on the important committee. “I know first-hand how small businesses have been overburdened by government regulations and red tape,” said the freshman lawmaker. “I look forward to being an active participant in some healthy discussions about how we can become more supportive of the small business owners who represent the backbone of our Illinois economy.”

A lawyer by profession, Andersson will also lend his talents to a new House Judiciary-Civil Committee in Springfield. “I understand that in the past the Judiciary Committee heard bills from both the civil and criminal areas,” said Andersson. “I think splitting that committee into two separate panels will allow for more thorough discussions on key bills that affect our courts.”

During the 99th General Assembly, Andersson will also serve on the other following committees:
  • Appropriations-General Services
  • Cities & Villages
  • Transportation-Regulation, Roads & Bridges
  • Museums, Arts & Cultural Enhancement
  • Special Committee on Renewable Energy & Sustainability (new committee)
“I expect to see some very interesting legislation pass through these committees during the next two years, and I will appreciate having the opportunity to weigh in on them early in the bill consideration process,” Andersson said.
