Andersson’s Municipal Legislation Passes in House

Representative Andersson’s legislation passed out of the House today. HB2745 amends the Municipal Code to grant Non-Home Rule municipalities the same authority as Home Rule municipality’s regarding code enforcement. This bill removes a step in the process that added extra costs and expense to the process (including expenses that would be passed onto homeowners) that did not afford any protections to homeowners. The bill had previously passed unanimously out of the Executive Committee hearing before coming to the House floor for a debate. Today, Rep. Andersson fielded questions and explained the need for such legislation.

Rep. Andersson argued that this legislation ensures that the most efficient processes are used in municipal practices. In amending the Administrative Adjudication process, this allows Non-Home Rule communities to use a more efficient method to deal with local ordinance violations the most effectively. “It is important to create a process for these communities to use that will be not only easy but efficient. This method of dealing with local ordinances ensures that homeowner’s time and money is well spent—and that homeowner’s properties are well kept.”

The legislation received a constitutional majority with 104 voting yes, and will move on to the Senate. Rep. Andersson is confident this bill will continue to move forward.
