Andersson Honors Veterans at DuPage Airport

Today, a group of veterans in the 65th District gathered at the DuPage County Airport, where they were honored for their service. The ceremony and flight was made possible by The Holmstad Covenant Retirement Community, who brought veterans who reside in their community to the airport. The Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to “give back to those who have given,” helped coordinate the event with the Holmstad.

The Foundation provides flights on a Boeing Stearman biplane, the same aircraft used to train many military aviators in the 1940’s. The group of veterans were extremely excited to have another opportunity to take a flight on an airplane similar to the ones they flew in during their time of service. However, due to weather constraints they were unable to take flight today.
Representative Steve Andersson was a key note speaker at the event, and was extremely honored to be a part of such a special day. Andersson said, “Today, I am simply a grateful American. As a State Representative, I represent grateful Americans who do not have the honor of speaking to their heroes like I do today. It is my sincere hope that we can always remember the efforts of our veterans and their sacrifices for our freedom and live by them.”

In addition to his remarks, Representative Andersson further honored the veterans with certificates of recognition. The ceremony also included comments from the Mayor of Batavia, Jeff Schielke, and SFC Larry Orsborn. The Batavia and West Chicago Fire Departments also participated in the ceremony.
